When an East London photographer came across 1,000s of David Granick’s colour slides in early 2017, he knew he had struck gold. The collection showcases previously unpublished colour photographs of London’s East End capturing the post-war streets of Stepney, Whitechapel, Bow and beyond in warm Kodachrome hues. Left untouched at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives for 37 years and revealed now for the first time, the photographs show an East London on the cusp of transition to the place we recognise it as today.
David Granick (1912 – 1980) was a photographer who lived in the East End his whole life. His colour slides laid untouched until last year when a local photographer, Chris Dorley-Brown, examined them. For more information on David Granick, please visit: www.ideastore.co.uk/granick.
