The Sportsman launch at Noble Rot
Monday saw the good and great from Whitstable and beyond descend on Noble Rot on Lambs Conduit Street to celebrate the book from the chef of the No 1. Restaurant in the country (for the second year in a row). The Sportsman is the highly-anticipated debut cookbook from Stephen Harris, the chef who transformed what was once called a ‘grotty rundown pub by the sea’ on the coast in Kent into a Michelin starred restaurant. The book is more than a cookbook – Harris’ engaging essays introduce the reader to the rich culinary history of the area; how he found The Sportsman and his philosophy that merges punk music and food.
The book was celebrated with canapés inspired by The Sportsman restaurant (think focaccia, burrata and trompete mushrooms, gem lettuce with cod’s roe and radish, pork scratchings, smoked almonds and 18-month old Comte shavings) and wine from the famous Noble Rot cellar.
Thanks to the Noble Rot team for hosting a wonderful evening and to Phaidon for their support.
The Sportsman is published on the 22nd September and will be available from the Phaidon website.
