This year Michelin will publish their very first gastronomic guide to Slovenia, however for the past several years it’s been the country’s most renowned chef Ana Roš, who is considered to have put her country on the culinary map. Published in March her long-awaited debut book Sun and Rain will provide a glimpse into the chef’s idiosyncratic cooking style, her rebellious spirit and her single handed determination to create a Slovenian food culture. Set in the fairytale-like landscape of Slovenia’s remote Soča Valley, in the foothills of mountains and beside a turquoise river full of trout, the book weaves stories, tales, recollections, recipes and poems to tell the story of the chef, her family and friends that make up the components of the restaurant and the landscape they are part of.
Sun and Rain is a visual delight and an elegant tome, illustrated with evocative landscape images and beautiful food photography, it vividly uncovers the warmth, wildness and otherworldly nature of this unique part of Slovenia.
Ana Roš: Sun and Rain by Ana Roš is published by Phaidon on 12 March 2020
